FAQ

When does the event take place?

Due to Covid-19, our 2020 event has been cancelled. Dates for 2021 are currently under review and will be announced when confirmed.

Where does the event take place?

The event is held annually at Hellyer County Park near the Buena Vista picnic area on the Cottonwood Lake side of the park.

The address is: 985 Hellyer Ave, San Jose, CA 95111. You can obtain additional information regarding the park via the following link: https://www.sccgov.org/sites/parks/parkfinder/Pages/Hellyer.aspx

Where can I park and is it free?

You can park within the county park grounds, however there is a fee to do so. The fee will be posted at the entrance gate as it changes throughout the year and is collected by the park. The typical cost is approx. $5-$6. You are free to park on any public street or space, just be sure to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start of your race so that you have time to get to the starting line in time for takeoff.

Do I get any cool stuff?

  • Screen printed, cotton blend, finisher tee (unisex sizing)
  • Custom 5th year finisher medal
  • Free digital race photos
  • Overall and age group placeholder awards
  • Post race prize raffle
  • Catered post race athlete food

Are there any awards?

Totally! We will be awarding our top 3 overall finishers, male & female, for both divisions with special awards and prizes. Age group placeholders will also be awarded and recognized.

The award ceremony is to be held shortly after the completion of both courses, normally by 10:30 am.

Will there be any food?

Absolutely! We will offer fresh fruit, muffins, apple sauce, yogurt, croissants, cookies and other goodies. California summers are scorchers, especially in August, so we wanted to have something on site to quench your thirst and satisfy your sweet tooth. That being said, we're bringing in that iconic Kona Hawaiian Ice truck again for 2019. Kona Ice will be available for an additional, yet very reasonable fee. Prices begin at $3 per snow cone. We know you already want one.

Who are your sponsors and how can I become one?

We are pleased to announce that some of our 2020 sponsors include Sports Basement, SVE Timing, Hermitage Brewing Co., VF11 Industries, Bare Crunchy Snacks, WaterLoo Sparkling Water, Safeway and SaveMart, just to name a few. Learn more by visiting our sponsor page.

If you wish to sign up to become a sponsor or to host a booth at our event, please fill out the contact form via the sponsor tab at the top of this website. We'd love to have you on board.

Volunteers needed!

If you're interested, we'd love to have you! Volunteers are needed on course at aid stations to distribute water & encourage the runners, as well as at the finish. Duties at the finish line would include: packet pickup, t-shirt distrubution, athlete food prep and waste management. In return for your support, we are pleased to offer each volunteer a screen printed event shirt, community service hours for school aged students and a discount to participate in next year's event, should you wish to run. Interested volunteers can sign up here!

How do we get in touch with the event organizers?

You can send us an email at: info@radical80srun.com and someone will be able to assist you.

Do you offer refunds if I can't participate?

Our 2020 event has been cancelled. All registered athletes received full refunds and corresponding email confirmations. Registration has since been closed and will reopen when a date for 2021 has been confirmed.

In normal circumstances refunds are granted up to a certain cutoff date. Beyond the specified date for the year, refunds will not be issued, however, we can and will offer to defer your entry to following year's event, should you not be able to participate.

Can we bring our dog to the event? How about strollers & wheelchairs?

  • Yes, service dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash at all times. Due to USATF restrictions, pet dogs are not allowed on course during the duration of the event, however the park does permit dogs within their grounds. We just can't have non-service dogs on the actual course, during the race.
  • Strollers and wheelchairs are also welcomed. The event takes place on a paved bike path, suitable for all wheeled units.
  • We do ask that you please be courtious to the other athletes and place yourselves, with your service dog and or stroller, at the back of the pack to avoid injury or conflict.
